Two Stories in 1989 File of Newspaper clippings.

  1. “Reports and hungry Sharks haunt Tigers”.  Two key players were reported at East Fremantle oval throwing the Claremont finals campaign into turmoil. Ruckman Peter Higgins and peter Melesso were reported by umpire Phil O’Reilly after an incident involving Rod Lester-Smith.  The reports were the only sour note for Claremont. Claremont lost by 8 points, however, they lost Ben Allan who was in brilliant form when he received a kick below the knee and did not return after three quarter time.  Best on ground was Claremont’s Tony Begovich.
  2. “Mark’s hopes flew away”.  An energy-sapping case of the flu may have cost Mark Brayshaw’s chance of an upset and winning the Sandover medal.  Brayshaw who finished second, missed two games at the end of the season with the flu and one early in the year with injury.  Peter Thorne came third. .
