Tony Capes in newspaper headline “Claremont player does best”.  If there was a fairest and best award for the best player in the match between hawthorn and the WA second side at Subiaco on Saturday it would have been won by Tony Capes Claremont’s Centre-half-forward.   Capes gave a brilliant display and it was mainly due to his efforts that the WA forwards developed an admirable system.  Capes defeated three men who were tried on him John McArthur, Don Gent and Sted Hav.  Ironically Capes who has only been in WA for a few months came from Kew in hawthorn’s district.

Capes played for Claremont for only one year in 1959 and played 19 games.
