Football 1982  Football Book “The High and Mighty”. with a story on Claremont assistant coach Murray Ward.

There is also a photograph of Murray Ward in his playing days for Claremont.

This story goes into why Murray Ward made a big difference to the Claremont side and why they won the premiership the previous year.   Moss was quoted as saying ” Soon playing coaches will be like dinosaurs”.  After the 1980 loss in the first semi final their was rumblings at Claremont that Moss should be sacked.  Reasons were Moss was considered too soft on the players and his own performance suffered.  A compromise was reached when Murray Ward came to the club to assist Moss and lose the sft stigma.

Ward played 120 games for West Perth and Claremont and with his leadership the Claremont style changed slightly and their was more disciple and method to the players.  Ward coached the Tigers reserves in 66,67 and 68.  Since 1970 he has been coach of the highly successful Aquinas College.

At the end of 1980 the broom came out at Claremont and 18 players who played a total of 199 league games left the Club for various reasons.
