- Gordon ‘Sonny’ Maffina has decided to retire. The 28 year old Claremont champion has been advised by his doctor after examination of his left knee to give up competitive football. He played 90 games for Claremont and looking forward to playing his 100th this year. He injured the knee against South Fremantle last year and has had two recurrences of the injury this year. At his top, Maffina was amazingly fast in the pivot position and he directed his stab kicks with power and precision. Not only a great champion but a great clubman.
- Geoff Rakich the Swan Districts ruckman towers over a teammate Jim O’Connell and two Claremont players with George Pearce about to tackle.
