2019, June 2, Sunday Times Story and photos “Yu-turn leads to New York” and a photo of Keifer Yu with his partner Sophie and their daughter Macie. Keifer Yu knew there would be a void when he called time on his WAFL career at the end of last season. He had grafted out 100 games for Claremont, only the second aboriginal player to reach that mark, at the Tigers. A Yawuru man, the traditional owners of the land and water around Broome, Yu moved to Perth aged 12 and attended Hale school and then throughout his WAFL career played with Claremont. His partner Sophie fell pregnant and they returned to Broome for family support. A daughter Macie was born, he landed a job with the Wirrapunda Foundation and was last week selected as one of three runners to run in the New York marathon.
