Claremont put its case forward as a premiership contender with a 102 point thumping of South Fremantle at Claremont Oval. The Tigers piled on 9 goals to nil in the opening quarter with the breeze to open up a match winning lead.  They won 24.9 to Souths 7.9 to defeat the reigning the premiers. Last years Bernie Naylor medallist Chad Jones was on fire  kicking 4 of his 8 goals in the first quarter.  Ian Richardson was also on target kicking 3 first quarter goals and finishing with 6. Luke Blackwell led with 32 possessions and Lewis Stevenson had 28 and Andrew Foster 26 in a terrific performance. Beau Wilkes and Byron Schammer bout had a solid outing.
