About an hour before Saturday’s battle with East Perth, stand-in Claremont coach Brad Wira pulled former captain Jaxon Crabb aside for a chat.  Absent Ashley Prescott was missing with the arrival of his first child and their was some concern about the chain of command with the missing coach.  Wira called on Crabb to guide the charges on the field and he led from the front to win 14.12 to 12.2. Crabb’s ability to get the ball into his forward’s hands particularly Chad Jones, enabled him to have another blistering start.  jones kicked 6 of the Club’s first 7 goals and 8.3 for the day.
