2006, May 15, The West, Photo and story under headline “Harper makes most of tall order”.  Also a photo of Claremont’s Mitch Morton who gets a ride on Daniel Bandy as Simon Pearce attempts to spoil.  Darren Harper is one of the players who provide the mortar clubs need to build success.  Never likely to head the Club’s best or capable of turning a match on his boots but he can still have a critical role as the cement linking the more glamourous bricks in the team.  In the 4 seasons following his debut in 2002, Harper has managed only 9 senior games as injuries, studies and other top line players have caused him to wait.

Besides the setback the 24 year old has remained determined to succeed with Claremont.  He has won a regular berth this season as the third tall forward behind Anthony Jones and David Crawford playing b5 matches for 6 goals.    It was the loss of Bandy that saw Harper thrive when required to take on major responsibility.  Bandy’s absence meant Harper had to ruck  and it was the first time since his colts days and it was the most telling contribution in his league career.  He shared the ruck taps but dominated around the ground to haul in 5 second half marks and and have a dozen disposals.  Prescott said Harper’s manful effort was an inspiration to his team mates.  Prescott also singled out Clancy Rudeforth for breaking even with play maker Shane Woewodin.
