2006, June 9, The West, Photo and story under headline “Marvellous Macca a recognised Legend.  A photograph of John McIntosh with his old mate and long time friend, Claremont Ken Venables displaying tomorrow’s special ball.   John McIntosh was one of the 4 famous “m”s who were a runner up in the Brownlow medal, a feat which is likely to be highlighted when the legend  is toasted at Claremont Oval tomorrow.  Though Graham Moss won the medal three years after finishing runner-up in 1973, McIntosh’s second to Richmond’s Ian Stewart in 1971 mirrored fellow Tigers George Moloney (1932) and Denis Marshall 1968.  The big man star also shone as brightly at home with 146 games career with Claremont where he was best and fairest in 1966 and 1969.  he was an All Australian in both those years and a Simpson medalist in the 1966 carnival.
