1994, May 18, Sunday Times, Story and Photo “Neesham’s AFL critics turn up the heat”. Gerard neesham the man many people believe should coach the new Fremantle AFL team, is the target of a campaign to keep him out of the job. Neesham’s detractors have told the Fremantle Board that his ‘chip and draw’ style coaching which has worked so well at Claremont would come unstuck in the AFL where man on man tactics prevail. They also point out that some of Claremont’s former players Ben Allan and Don Pyke had to be re-trained to become more direct at the football. Neesham said he was aware of a strong push for an AFL coach but the decision would probably be made tomorrow.
