1992, March 25, West Australian, Story and photos, “Neesham fire burns on despite losses to AFL.”. As Claremont coach Gerard neesham prepares for his 17th season in league football the flame of enthusiasm still burns as brightly as the first day he started. With the start of the 1992 season the ‘little general’ is grooming a squad of 36 players for the defence of the flag. It is a squad that is decimated when AFL Clubs swooped and drafted 10 Claremont players taking to 38 the number of his players drafted while he has been in charge at Claremont. Neewsham makes no effort to hide his contempt of the draft saying it is “fragile and dangerous”.
