1991, June 30,   an article in the Sunday Times Newspaper on Claremont and St. Kilda champion John McIntosh.  A series was written about the living legends and this story featured John McIntosh.

John answered a series of questions on how he started playing football, toughest opponent and his highlights through the years.  His greatest disappointment was while playing for St. Kilda he gave away the Brownlow medal.  About two thirds through the season in 1971 against Carlton he was reported by the field umpire.   After the match the umpire told him he would have won the three points as best on ground if he had not been reported.  He got off the charge and lost the Brownlow by three points, finishing runner up to Stewart.
