1990, September 23, West Australian, Story “Panizza proud of football achievements” For a teenager that hitched a ride to perth on the back of one of his Albany mates, Darrell Panizza has come a long way in football. When he arrived at Claremont in 1977 he turned up with Ramon Smith, who was tipped for a big future but showed little interest in Panizza. But 13 years down the track, Panizza can look back with pride at his achievements. Five state matches all of them winning games for WA, fairest and best awards at Claremont and Woodville SA, a record 7 goal haul on a wing against West Perth on August 6, 1983, four grand finals including the 981 premierships and 250 senior games and a product of a great Southern town. Today he achieves the most experienced player in final rounds for Claremont and a fine recruit. Although he didn’t play in the VFL, he played in a State of origin game in 1993 against Victoria where WA won by 3 points.
