1990, December 13, an Article in the West Australian Newspaper on Claremont threatening to break away from WAFL.  At the AGM a motion was ut to the members for Claremont to secede from the WAFL and form a breakaway league with other disenchanted clubs.  The motion was after Claremont revealed it had made a trading loss of about $150,000.00 but was defeated.   Lew Mutch admitted that he had already had a meeting with other Clubs to discuss forming a new league.

It was a night of heated debate from members about the WAFC and there perceived lack of support.  Also complaints about the West Coast eagles when on the same night Steve Malaxos was awarded life Membership along with former player Wayne Reynolds.
