Story 1989 ” Swans make life tough at the top”.  As Claremont forward was heading for his position before the match commenced, Swans Mick Grasso did not make way and a collision took place.  Grasso then gave Evans a dig in the ribs.  Evans responded cannoning off his chunky rival.  This continued for about 2 minutes.  Claremont eventually won by 21 points.

Best players were Mark Brayshaw in defence, Peter Melesso, John Scott who celebrated 50 and 100 game milestones, Tony Begovich, Tony Evans, Ben Allan and Don Pyke.

Story – Injured player trampled by ruck –  Don Pyke was felled in the third quarter and about 20 players in a skirmish.  Umpire David Johnson tried to stop the fight and called for the game to resume and the ruckman fell dangerously on top of Pyke and the medicos.  Ben Allan was reported for striking swans Ken Bell in the first quarter and Craig Hoycard was also reported for striking Pyke in the last term.
