1988, September 4,  The West Australian Newspaper under heading ” Tiger Neesham earns his stripes”.  Photograph of Gerard Neesham holding last year’s premiership trophy.  Also small photos of Don Pyke, Ben Allan and tony Begovich.

eyebrows were raised when Neesham was appointed captain coach of Claremont in 1986.  He didn’t fit the gel of Claremont as he didn’t dress, speak or present himself in the accepted manner  and had been reared in a different environment. Neesham was also surprised and thought he would get to the interview stage and no further.  Nearly 2 years later Neesham and a group of Directors have been proved correct.  Neesham has become the second successful coach in Claremont’s history after Johnny Leonard.   Under Neesham Claremont have played 44  games won 35drawn 2 and lost 7.

Players that left from last year include Derek Kickett, Darren Klemm, Warren Ralph, David O’Connell, Guy McKenna, Steve Goulding, Cam Shepherd, Brian Sutherland and himself.  The younger players this year include Scott Edwards, Tony Begovich, Dale Kickett, Mark Brayshaw, Julian Urquhart while Don Pyke and Ben Allan have kept improving.
