Harper details his first attempt to play league for Claremont and returning home to Albany after being struck by illness. He returned to Claremont in 1979 after captaining his team in the Albany league and returned to the WAFL as one of the best big man in the competition. He was part of the 1981 Claremont Premiership team and represented Western Australia.
