1979, April 29, West Australian, story and photo headlined ” South streak to win”. Photo of Jim Krakouer packs the ball under his arm and runs from Joe McKay and Stephen Michael. The other photo is Robbie Melville has the front position on South’s Ray Bauskis but spills the mark under pressure.
The game was billed as the match of the day at Claremont Oval. 15,000 fans were treated to a magnificent exhibition of the skills before South gained the upper hand in the last quarter to win by 24 points. Claremont threw everything at South and the backline of Melville, Ivanoff and Carlon allowed the opponents very little latitude. Gerard McNeill proved his worth as a ruckman but the Krakouer brothers did not have much influence on the game. Claremont owed the second quarter fightback to Moss but it was not enough.
