1979, April 1, The West Australian, story and photo headlined ” Claremont show true grit” Photographs of Claremont rover Phil Krakouer who was in spectacular marking form at Perth oval on Saturday. In these pictures he beats Stepen Curtis to the ball, then dives headlong to mark before it hits the ground.
Claremont snared the major share of the football glory on Saturday with their over east Perth but this did not diminish the significance of the the first up victories over South Fremantle, East Fremantle and West Perth. Claremont have converted a hard summer of work and enthusiasm into tough action that earned them an 18 point win over east Perth.
Claremont owed much on Saturday to wingman Dalton Gooding and centre half back Robbie Melville.
