1978 In the weekly ‘Star’ material, this week is Wayne Blackwell from Claremont.  Claremont half-forward gave his best game in league football against swans.  Blackwell who will turn 18 at the end of next month gave a polished display and vindicated the faith Claremont had in playing him. He started as a rover but has now settled down well as a half-forward with an occasional run on the ball.

The second story is “A vital cog in the tigers machine” Wayne Blackwell. Losing the vice captaincy could easily have had a distressing effect on Claremont ruck-rover Blackwell. Blackwell took that in his stride and concentrated on his football. Blackwell had played in the centre but when he was injured, Malaxos played in the centre and played so well he kept it. Blackwell then developed into a first class ruck-rover.

He played 112 games from 1978 -1983.
