Claremont beat Perth in the Preliminary Final by 9 points at Subiaco before 29,521 fans.  Claremont only had won 4 games the previous year and finished on the bottom.  The run this year appeared stopped when Claremont had a sluggish start and 5 goal leeway.  4 goals to Ian Brewer put Claremont back in the game before half time.  John Fairbrass gave an outstanding display as did Ian Brayshaw.
