1964 Headline “Monts Owed much to I. Brewer”.

Ian Brewer played the game of his life to send Claremont rocketing into next week’s grand final after a 9 point win over Perth. When Claremont had scored 3.4. Brewer has scored 3.3. of them. “Claremont’s win capped one of the games best rags to riches story”.  You could not tip the Tigers against East Fremantle but with the spirit Claremont is playing you never know.

Claremont were bottom last year winning only 4 games.  The first half they played mediocre and it was mainly the four goals by Ian Brewer which kept them in the game.  Another top player was Ian Brayshaw who played well.  Then Claremont seemed to click, Harvey who had done very little except snap a point post he goaled and then Ken Mann goaled. Claremont carried their improved form into the third quarter. Harvey and Parkinson goaled and Claremont looked like they had it won till Perth kicked several goals and the scores were level.    Then John McIntosh won a ruck tap and carried the ball out and snapped a goal followed by another goal by Ian Brewer.
