Claremont defeated Subiaco in the first league Football Semi Final at Subiaco Oval.
The tenacity of the defenders Ian Aitken, John Grieve, John Rogers, Ian Brayshaw, John Fairbrass and Ian Fisher clinched victory for Claremont.
Grieve completely eclipsed Subiaco full-forward Austin Robertson and used his strength to break clear with the ball. Fairbrass was also responsible for getting the ball and running to the centre line and kicking it into attack. Claremont Centre half forward Ian Brewer had not recovered well after heel injury but Claremont drove through the flankers.
Kevin Clune, Allen Mycock, John McIntosh and John Dethridge led a very strong following division which proved decisive.
