John O’Connell was just leaving home for the Claremont and South Fremantle game when he heard of the birth of his 5th child.
he had a collision in the last quarter and received a depressed fracture to his jaw and was admitted to Fremantle Hospital. He would not be able to see the baby till at least the afternoon of the following day.
