During the 1960s Claremont champion Wayne Harvey with the prodigious kick and speed was approached to look at playing American football.  he was supplied a full set of uniform and safety equipment and tested at running to see the difference in speed for both sports.  Surprisingly there was little difference.

The feedback he received was the Americans could not believe that Australian rules players played this sport without more protective equipment.
