Stories “Football coach joins Executive” – Johnny Leonard retired from coaching Claremont and is now a Vice President of the Club.

“Claremont trophy to Guthrie” Hugh Guthrie has been voted Claremont’s fairest and best player for 1941.

“Was missing in Crete”. Major Ralph Honner who had been awarded the Military Cross.  He had been missing in Crete for 3 months and was posted as a likely prisoner of War.  He had managed to escape and news had travelled back to his family in Perth.

“Footballers in AIF” Well know players in Khaki are George Moloney, Syd Moloney, Jim Reid and johnny Compton of Claremont; Allan Brewer and les Hardiman of Subiaco; Doug Oliphant of Perth: and Bill Benton and Syd Gregg formerly of west Perth.

“Claremont team balance upset”.  Enlistments and military training calls tended to upset the team balance and severe injuries weakened its strength in a review of the 1941 season.  Hugh Guthrie was the only player to play 21 games.  Jim reid and bill Sutherland played their 100 games.

George Moloney brought his appearances to 184 and main trophy winners were Hugh Guthrie, J Reid, J. Hooper, H. Compton, G. Moloney, W. O’Neill, J. Edmeades and W. Sutherland.
