1938 WA Tour of SA and 7 players upset co-manager F. Book.

The players that came under fire were Doug Oliphant (P), Paddy Fitzgerald (P), Bert Gook (P),  Bob Crowe (EP), Jack Reeves (C), A. Richardson (SF) and Mick Ryan(EP).

Four of these players went to the Mirror office and stated that they had been banned by League Delegates from further participation in Interstate games this year following a complaint made by Fred Book, regarding the conduct of some of the recently returned team who had returned from Victoria and South Australia.

It is asserted that not one member of this these men was officially informed that he was on a list the League had submitted to the selectors. It was also contended that none of this 7 had been called up to hear the reasons why they had been suspended.   It was the leakage of confidential information that came to the ears of two of them when they went to the “Mail”. The members demanded they be able to meet the League bosses in the presence of Mr Book.  One of the selectors had stated that a list of names had been received by the selectors.

The players believe this is wrong and a smudge on their character.
