1938 Business’s Drabbles versus Arcus at Chidlow at Football. President Horrie Mercer was one of the longest serving officials in the history of The Claremont Football Club from 1936 to 1949 and presided over one of the golden years of the Club. Horrie because of his position of influence at the Claremont Hardware store Drabbles, was able to find employment for several players at the store which was only a few hundred metres from the Club. Some of the players he employed included George Moloney, Jack Reeves and Kevin Caporn. This helped reinforce the connection between the business community of Claremont and the Club. Other people including a Club patron also employed players especially during the war. Competitions through the business’s of Perth was pretty common.
