WAFL Ice Cream Tin,  “HALF GALLON” and details of the maker not on this Lid

Back in the 1960s, the biggest supplier of ice cream was the Peters Ice Cream company. The most notable link between the WAFL and the ice cream manufacturer was the production of special tins, which featured the colours of each of the WAFL clubs.  The tins themselves were all the same, featuring famous football scenes around the side. But the lids were each painted in club colours and bore the words “Peters Football Specials”. Notably, the lids do not feature the names of the clubs at all.

There are, in fact, two different types of lids and, therefore, two different sets of tins. The first has the words “Peters Football Specials VANILLA ICECREAM” on the lid, while the other carries the additional words “HALF GALLON” and details of the maker.
