1986 May 8 , The West , Story and photos headlined “Mitchell signs with VFL Tigers” Claremont rover Michael Mitchell one of WA’s most brilliant footballers has signed a contract to play with Richmond in the VFL for 1987-89. His decision so early in the current year was expected by many that he would move to Melbourne. Claremont will not stand in his way but President Ian Goldie sounded a not of warning. Michael has been a magnificent player for Claremont and a great club man. We will be disappointed to see him leave but we understand his desire to move and he will go with our best wishes.
