During 1971 Claremont were on the top of the table after Round 1. John Bridgeman was a lively and skilful wingman and son of the former half-back and committeeman Maurie Bridgeman and had an outstanding season for the Claremont side. During this year Bruce Duperouzel, John Bridgewood and Graham Moss stood out as consistently best players of the year, all playing for the State and finishing 1st, 2nd and 3rd in the Clubs fairest and best.
