1962 The Controversial decision to drop Kevin Clune and the subsequent backlash
21 April 1962. This outlines the controversial story of when Kevin Clune walked out of Claremont after being dropped to the seconds without any explanation. As disgusted members attended the Club and handed the badges in the Board had to act and issued a directive that Clune had to play the following week. he then turned up and trained on the Thursday.
The three selectors Peter Pianto, Fred Mann and Tommy Serjeant did not believe he was ready to return and made the decision which was one of the most controversial in the Club’s history. Without the support of the members and the public it would not have been changed and he would have left the Club.
